This laptop comes with a SATA hard disk for which the drivers are not available in the Windows XP installation CD and therefore the Windows setup does not recognize the SATA disk . So we need to create a custom Windows XP installation CD with SATA driver added.
To do this please follow the below steps.
Download nLite (which is used to add the necessary drivers and to create a windows XP Installation CD) from
http://home.midmaine.com/~nlite/nlite/nLite-1.4.9.1.installer.exe
Download the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager Floppy Configuration Utility from here
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=16759&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng
You can find a step by step guide on how to create a XP installation CD here
http://maxeasyguide.blogspot.com/2008/04/preparations-for-winxp-installation-cd.html
Copy the Folder where the vista drivers are located (Generally in c:\SwSetup)
Down load the XP drivers for HP Pavillion dv5 1116 from the below locations
Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH9 :
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39316.exe
